Youth Of Today, Can’t Close My Eyes

3rd pressing on Positive Force, 12” repressing on Schism/Caroline, First pressing on Revelation, and latest repressing on Revelation. (Schism/We Bite european repressing uses the same sound as Caroline/Schism repressing).

The copy that I took from my father has the first pressing cover with the grainy picture of Ray singing and the red Youth Of Today in the top left corner and “Can’t Close My Eyes” in the bottom right corner.  On the reverse it has a live picture of the band with a red Positive Force records logo (bottom left) and red address (bottom right). Text on the back has the song list, band members, and produced by Kevin Seconds. There is a folded lyric sheet with the same info as on the back. The backside of the lyrics sheet is a bunch of pictures of the band and “Youth Of Today ‘Can’t Close My Eyes’” at the top. Blue Labels with the songs on it. Positive Force at the top Youth Of Today over an X at the bottom. Side 2 drawing of a guy on a skateboard and Youth Of Today at the top. 

Side one Matrix says: L- 23-111- X, PF - 004 - RE

Side two matrix say the same. 

Sound: The vocals sound really raw and echoey. The guitar is a bit twangy. Back-ups sound great. This version of the record does not include the intro to “I Have Faith”. It also doesn’t include “Take A Stand”.
Expectations, Crucial Times, I Have Faith, and Youth Of Today on side 1. Positive Outlook, Can’t Close My Eyes, and Youth Crew on side 2. 

 

Caroline/Schism 12” repressing:

The cover is the same picture from the 7” but without the grain. Youth Of Today centered in the top and “Can’t Close My Eyes” at the bottom outlined in black. The back is all white with a picture of Porcell jumping slightly crooked. Schism records logo in the bottom left corner and Caroline in the right. Song list also on the back.  Gatefold lyric sheet with pictures of the band on the top and bottom. Lyrics, thank yous, and other info in the middle. Side 1 label is white with Youth Of Today Can’t Close My Eyes at the top. In the middle is the song list. And Schism and Caroline logos at the bottom. Side 2 is a picture of Porcell jumping. 

Side 1 and 2 have the same matrix: Carol - 1353 - 13

Sound: Clearly remixed and made louder. The guitar isn’t as twangy and the vocals aren't as raw and echoey. This is the first version with the intro to “I Have Faith”.

Expectations, Crucial Times, I Have Faith, Youth Of Today, and Take A Stand are on side 1. Positive Outlook, Can’t Close My Eyes, We Just Might, and Youth Crew are on side 2.

First Revelation Pressing:

This cover is the “fist” cover. It has a picture of an X’ed up fist on the front over a zoomed in picture of the same fist. Youth Of Today written in the same olive green tint as the cover in the top right. Across the bottom is “Can’t Close My Eyes”, the same style as Youth Of Today is written. On the back isa a picture of Ray’s lips and nose. On the side is the song list. The lyric sheet on the front has a picture of Ray singing, thank yous, and other stuff. In the middle of the thank yous and other stuff is a picture of Porcell. And behind the words is the first from the cover. TWICE. On the back of the lyric sheet are the lyrics and pictures of the band that are way, way, too zoomed in. The vinyl is green, with the fist from the cover on the side one label. Youth Of Today is at the top and Can’t Close My EYes at the bottom. A revelation records logo is in the middle. Side 2 is a picture of Ray.

Sound: The same as the Caroline/Schism repressing but this time it’s in 45 rpm.

Latest Revelation Pressing:

Same cover as the 7” but the back picture is grainy. Revelation Records logo in the bottom left corner. Song list in the top right corner and band members in the middle. Front and back of the lyric sheet are lyrics and pictures of the band in the grainy way like the front cover. Labels are the same as on the first pressing too. Except for the Positive Force logo it is replaced with the revelation logo. 

Sound: The same as the first rev pressing.
